Giacometta i Vincenzo Marrone d’Alberti

The piano duo formed by the siblings Giacometta & Vincenzo Marrone d’Alberti represents one of the most refined and highly regarded realities on the international music scene, always combining innate talent, profound interpretive synergy, and an aesthetic pursuit of sound that has accompanied them since childhood. Giacometta Marrone d’Alberti graduated with top marks from the Alessandro Scarlatti Conservatory in Palermo, studying with Maestros Antonio Fortunato and Eliodoro Sollima. She continued with the highest-level advanced training, working with some of the greatest masters of our time: Maria João Pires, Sergio Celibidache, and Boris Petrushanskij. She also perfected her skills with the legendary Edith Picht-Axenfeld, a direct student of Rudolf Serkin, and earned her degree with top honours as a solo concert performer and chamber musician at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen (Germany), under the guidance of Maestro Wolfgang Wagenhäuser. Vincenzo Marrone d’Alberti graduated with top marks in 1989 from the “Alessandro Scarlatti” Conservatory in Palermo under Antonio Fortunato, later deepening his studies with internationally renowned masters such as Eliodoro Sollima, heir to the school of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Between 1988 and 1991 he studied in Freiburg with Picht-Axenfeld, inheriting her Bachian vision; he then continued in Frankfurt with Edelstein and, from 1992 to 1994, with Tichman, who in 1993 introduced him to the famous Taubman School of Piano in Amherst (Massachusetts), where he worked with Dorothy Taubman, one of the world’s greatest innovators in piano technique. Their collaboration as a duo has given rise to unforgettable moments in contemporary concert life. Invited to the world’s most prestigious stages — from the Amherst College Festival in Boston to the Concert Hall in Cambridge (for the BBC Music Magazine), from the Glazunov Hall of the St. Petersburg Conservatory to the Musikhalle in Ludwigsburg, from the Cristofori Hall in Amsterdam to the Instituto de Cultura in Cuernavaca, Mexico, they made their debut in Frankfurt in 2000 at Kronberg Castle and performed for European high finance at the Städel Kunstmuseum, Villa Giersch, and the new hall of the German Stock Exchange (February 2002), at the invitation of President Werner Seifert, in the presence of ministers, presidents of banks, and European stock exchanges. Particularly celebrated were their successes at the Bach and Schubert Festivals in Tuttlingen and Horb (Freiburg), with Bach’s Concertos for two pianos and orchestra, and the live recording of Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. They have recorded two CDs for piano four-hands featuring works by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel, and Liszt, produced in Frankfurt under the patronage of the German Stock Exchange and the International Bankers Forum: German press reviews hailed them as pianists of world renown. Vincenzo has also received significant individual accolades, including a prestigious prize from Bechstein in the Netherlands for Beethoven’s last two sonatas, inclusion among the top 25 European pianists in Ben Daeter’s volume Het Klassieke Pianorecital, the “Plötz Top 500” award among the most influential personalities in Frankfurt and Germany, and the “Sicanorum Cantica” honour conferred by the Presidency of the Italian Republic and the Senate. Both received the UNESCO Prize for Culture and Art (Vincenzo in 1998, Giacometta in 2000) from the UNESCO Commission of Trapani, with their appointment as UNESCO Ambassadors for the new generations. In 2021, the Marrone d’Alberti siblings founded the “Trapani Classica” Musical Association and launched the International Piano Competition “Domenico Scarlatti”, two projects that represent the heart of their current commitment: discovering, supporting, and guiding young talents along the challenging path toward a professional career, offering them concrete opportunities for artistic growth, international visibility, and confrontation with the highest performance standards. Today, Giacometta and Vincenzo Marrone d’Alberti are both full professors of principal Piano at the “Alessandro Scarlatti” Conservatory of Music in Palermo, where they continue with passion their artistic and educational mission, passing on to new generations the rigour, sensitivity, and excellence that have characterised their entire journey.
